Applications: MOLSUL® STSP is used as an antidote and reducing agent in suitable pharmaceutical preparations. It is used in the management of cyanide poisoning, where thiosulfate provides sulfur for the enzymatic conversion of cyanide to the less toxic thiocyanate. It is also used in topical preparations for certain dermatological conditions, including formulations for calciphylaxis in appropriate medical settings, and in other pharmaceutical applications requiring its reducing or sulfur-donating properties.

1 Appearance It occurs as transparent, colourless crystals, efflorescent in dry air.

(A) It decolourises.
(B) white precipitate is formed which rapidly becomes yellowish and then black.
(C) A precipitate of sulfur is formed and gas is evolved which gives a blue colour to starch iodate paper.
(D) It gives reaction (a) of sodium.
3 Solubility It is Very soluble in water, practically insoluble in ethanol 96 per cent. It dissolves in its water of crystallisation at about 49 °C.
4 Appearance of solution The freshly prepared solution is clear and colourless.
5 pH 6.0 to 8.4.
6 Sulfates and Sulfites Not more than 0.2%.
7 Sulfides The solution does not become violet.
8 Assay Not less than 99.0% and not more than 101.0%.

PACKAGING

MOLSUL® STSP is packed in HDPE bags or HDPE Drum with double PE liners inside having bar-coded label and tamper-evident seal.

SHELF LIFE, STORAGE AND PACKING

The shelf life is 5 years. It is stored in a tightly closed container in a cool, well-ventilated area, away from incompatible substances such as oxidizing agents.
